They faced the arduous task of embarking on a one-hour trek through lush landscapes just to find a signal for a simple phone call. For internet access — essential for research and exploration — students and teachers had to brave a daunting three-hour boat ride to nearby Makira Island, navigating unpredictable waters and the elements.
